A Little Help offers adults the ability to age in place and thrive by connecting them to volunteers to help with the “little things”.
The Colorado-based organization is utilizing an $18,000 grant from The Weld Trust to recruit more volunteers to serve 75 Weld County residents.
“We couldn’t do this without our volunteers,” the Northern Colorado Director of A Little Help Colleen Meyer said. “That’s what is so beautiful about The Weld Trust grant is we can get more volunteers and help our community.”
The Weld Trust supports housing stability with wraparound services to help older adults age safely in their homes.
Volunteers can offer an array of help including transportation, house or yard work, medication and grocery delivery, technology assistance and much more. Meyer said there are two ways to volunteer – as a background checked individual or as a group completing a bigger project.
“I just want people to understand that the aging population is increasing and serving our older population isn’t always top of mind,” Meyer said. “They are a priority and should be a priority. It’s something we can all relate to. There’s an older adult in our life we have respected, and we need to pay that forward.”
