Dementia-Friendly Communities of Northern Colorado started as a volunteer initiative in 2015 and evolved into a nonprofit organization in 2016. Their mission is “no one walking the dementia journey has to walk alone.” Since they started their nonprofit, they have provided over 13,000 individuals with dementia-friendly education.
The Weld Trust provided Dementia-Friendly Communities with a grant to support their personnel costs, training, and programming activities. The grant allowed them to expand their services in Weld County. Throughout the last year, this organization provided services through virtual memory cafes to help individuals discover they are not alone on the dementia journey. This was an alteration from the memory cafes which were already established in several locations throughout Northern Colorado. By creating the virtual memory cafes, they were able to reach individuals who might otherwise have felt socially isolated throughout the pandemic.
The Weld Trust focuses on projects and programs to promote excellence in health for the residents of Weld County. The support that Dementia-Friendly Communities of Northern Colorado provides to those living with dementia and their families through life-enrichment opportunities and dementia-friendly education is instrumental for Weld County.
