The Weld Trust has awarded $7,069,933 between two major grants, known as Flagship Grants, and their strategic grantmaking, known as Key Funding Initiative grants.
The first Flagship grant was awarded to A Woman’s Place for $1.25 million to support the new domestic violence shelter they are constructing to ultimately replace their existing facility. The new safehouse will double the number of families the safehouse currently serves with 16 client bedrooms, all of which will be ADA accessible. The facility will have a communal dining and kitchen area, laundry facilities, a community living room, two children’s playrooms, a secured outdoor play area, plus meeting space including an intake room, an advocacy office and an overnight staff sleep room.
“Unfortunately, the need for more domestic violence emergency beds is significant,” explained The Weld Trust Chief Execuitve Officer, Jeff Carlson. “The need is at an all-time high and the current capacity of A Woman’s Place facility is not nearly enough to meet the demand. Funding for this capital project will build long-term sustainable shelter for survivors of domestic violence and their families.”
The second Flagship grant is to Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity with $2.5 million to support the Hope Spring Community Development. This development will eventually provide 174 newly constructed Zero Energy Ready Homes for low-income families and individuals. The Hope Springs Development will occupy 42 acres, approximately two-thirds of which will be Habitat homes.
“It is exciting to see the partnerships created through this project,” shared Carlson. “The Weld Trust endeavors to support collaborative projects to provide a substantial impact on the community. Greeley-Weld Habitat has done exactly that through partnerships with numerous businesses in this community to help with the construction of Hope Springs, and they’ve also successfully identified funding sources beyond Weld County to invest in the project.” U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper awarded Habitat with over $2.5 million from his 2023 Congressional District Spending budget and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs has committed $4.3 million to the development.
“The Hope Springs Development will help address some of the housing challenges in Weld County,” stated Carlson. “We are pleased to support Greeley-Weld Habitat’s significant efforts in bringing so many partners together to create lasting change in this community.”
In addition to the two Flagship grants, The Weld Trust also awarded strategic grants totaling $3,319,933 to area nonprofits and schools within health and education. The Weld Trust’s strategic grantmaking supports seven Key Funding Initiatives with four initiatives in health and three in education.
The health key funding initiative grants are housing stability, food security, behavioral health and heathy habits. There were 15 health grants totaling $1,854,122 awarded to 14 organizations. The education initiatives are childhood literacy, access to resources for K-12 students and workforce development which totaled $1,998,811 to 21 organizations. “We are pleased to continue funding some existing programs we’ve supported before, but also seeing new projects and programs and even funding some organizations we’ve not yet worked with before,” explained The Weld Trust CEO, Jeff Carlson.
The key funding initiative grants were awarded to organizations located in Weld County or exclusively serve Weld County residents.
